NORWAY: Eni Norge has awarded Hyundai Heavy Industries the EPI contract for delivery of the NOK 7 bn large work of the Goliat FPSO. Norwegian-based Aker Solutions in co-operation Samsung Heavy Industries have been notified that they lost the race for this giant contract.
"We are naturally disappointed, but our focus now is on winning other new build projects and securing our offshore competence in a challenging market", says Jannik Lindbæk, senior vice president for corporate communication in Aker Solutions.
Aker Solutions was bidding for the job in a constellation with Samsung Heavy Industries.
The engineering would have been be conducted out of Oslo, the topside as well as the integration of topside and hull would have taken place at the Stord yard, utility modules would have been fabricated at the Egersund yard while Samsung Heavy Industries would have built the hull and living quarter. This delivery model, including sub-suppliers, would have generated an estimated 7 000 man years in Norway during the execution of the engineering, procurement and construction contract, Aker Solutions says in a press release.
"It is too early comment on how this will affect the future yard capacity in Norway. We will now invite our employee representatives to work with us to get a common understanding of the current challenge, and set the direction going forward", ends Lindbæk.
